Tom was about 12 when his music teacher at school realised he had perfect pitch during a lesson. Tom told the teacher all the notes he’d been playing and the teacher seemed surprised that he could tell; Tom thought it was obvious because he assumed that everybody could hear exactly which notes were being played too. As he got more and more into jazz, Tom started transcribing – he can now do note-for-note transcriptions of nearly anything. He has done Jamiroquai, Herbie Hancock, Oscar Peterson, Wynton Kelly, Sting… and he has done many charts for his own bands in the past. Tom is available to hire for transcribing services, whatever instrumental line-up you are interested in. Please get in touch via the contact page if you wish to enquire about his rates – it obviously depends on the complexity of the music you wish to have transcribed. Tom uses Sibelius to transcribe and can provide a .sib file and .pdfs as well.

Tom will hopefully be hosting all his transcriptions on this site under this page; it will take some time to get everything sorted out so in the meantime, please check out the videos below to see the kind of transcriptions he can do.

Hi Tom, I already have your transcription of Chameleon which I'm practising on my Rhodes 73 Suitcase '76. I heard you were working on the song Heartbeat from Herbie. Are you planning on transcribing 4AM too? I don't mind to pay for your transcriptions of the last two mentioned. You're doing a mighty good thing there. Keep going. Regards, Reinier The Netherlands

Hi Reinier, Thanks for the comment. I am working on Heartbeat - it's a case of deciding what to play at each point because it's impossible to play the full clavinet and Rhodes parts together! I'll certainly do 4AM at some point (along with Shiftless Shuffle!). I'm in the process of trying to contact Herbie to see whether it will be possible to release the transcriptions as a legitimate publication. All the best, Tom

Hi Tom, I totally missed your new posts on Youtube from Herbie (People music and Gentle thoughts) and Jamiroquai (which I like as well). I hope you can get in touch with Herbie to get something great going. It would be more than great to publish the amazing material he created in the 70s. For me it's the best music to play on the greatest instrument ever (imho): the Rhodes.....

Hey Tom, really nice videos man. Such a great tool for learning the piano. Been looking at jazz and 2-5-1's for about two years now and feel that my voicings are really coming along nicely. I've been looking to get away from 2-5-1's and so Jamiroquai seems a great path to go down. I wondered when you might be putting up the transcriptions on the site? Best, Grant (London).

Thanks for the message Grant! I have had to delay sorting out all the transcriptions because I am swamped with work. I am also trying to get some advice on the best, legal way to release the transcriptions. Anyway, I think realistically it will probably be July. Do you have a youtube channel with any playing I can watch - have you got a Rhodes? I'd love to hear some of those voicings! All the best, Tom

Hi, Tom. Great work, great taste, much appreciated from Brooklyn, NY. I've been checking back periodically for the last few months to see if you've ever had the chance to complete that transcription of People Music and where you're posting it... (one of my favorites from years back, glad to see it done justice as you have). From the above posts, looks like the transcriptions are on hold for the moment... Any idea when People Music will be up? Thanks, man.

Hi Jason, thanks for the comment and for stopping by. I'm busy in the process of leaving my job and becoming a full-time musician, so the transcriptions have slowed just for the time being. I've done the complete 'People Music' transcription though; you can see it here: http://youtu.be/DObC9EewD1M I'm still trying to find an official way of licensing my transcriptions, which is another reason for the delay. Particularly with the Herbie tracks, I've been trying to contact him to see whether he would be interested in what I've done. I've only had a tiny insight into music copyright law but trust me, a lot of it's depressing from all fronts! I plan to film future videos from above and use midi, so that I can then highlight which keys I'm playing - that is probably the easiest way of passing on the transcriptions I've done for the time being, Thanks again, Tom

Hey Tom. I really love your work and dedication to the Fender Rhodes. I was wondering when you will have the transcriptions for the Jamiroquai songs you play. Thanks

Tom, I am THOROUGHLY enjoying your playing. I've been playing since at 8 and I'm 48 now. I've been sheddin' with you as much as I can...LOL. I DESPARATELY need the transription to the solo from Heart's Desire. That one is BANANAS. Please advise as to when it will be ready. Thanks sooo much and good luck in all of your endeavors.
